Bảo Phi is a fierce fighter for social justice. A two-time Minnesota Grand Slam champion and a National Poetry Slam finalist, Bảo Phi has appeared on HBO Presents Russell Simmons Def Poetry, featured in the live performances and taping of the blockbuster diasporic Vietnamese variety show Paris By Night 114: Tôi Là Người Việt Nam, and a poem of his appeared in the 2006 Best American Poetry anthology.
He has two collections of poems, Sông I Sing and Thousand Star Hotel, the latter of which was nominated for the Minnesota Book Award and was chosen as 2017’s best poetry book of the year by San Francisco State’s Poetry Center.
His first children’s book, A Different Pond, won multiple awards including a Caldecott Honor, an Ezra Jack Keats Honor, Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association award for best picture book, the Minnesota Book Award for picture books, and the Charlotte Zolotow Award for excellence in children’s book writing. His second children’s book, My Footprints, was released by Capstone in 2019.

P.Q. Phan was born in 1962 in Đà Nẵng, Vietnam. He taught himself to play the piano, compose, and orchestrate since 1976 while studying architecture. In 1982, he immigrated to the United States and began his formal musical training. He earned his DMA in Composition from the University of Michigan, where he also earned a second Masters degree in Ethnomusicology.
During his more than 35 years of composing, P.Q. Phan, a Rome Prize winner, has written more than 100 works which includes two grand operas, a chamber opera, a requiem, more than 10 symphonic works, 6 concertos, 10 works for chamber orchestra, a large song cycle for mezzo soprano and chamber orchestra, etc. Phan’s music has been performed throughout the globe, including Mexico, England, France, Austria, Italy, Holland, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Sweden, Israel, Turkey, etc. in the most prestigious halls such as Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Hall, The Concertgebouw, Tchaikovsky Hall, Theatre de la Ville Paris, Santa Cecilia di Roma, Teatro Colon, Royal Hall of the Great Britain, Sydney Opera Hall, Takemitsu Opera Hall, Hà Nội Grand Hall, etc.
Dr. P.Q. Phan is Professor of Music in Composition at Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University. He had taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and Cleveland State University.
Giáo Sư Tiến Sĩ P.Q. Phan (hay Phan Quang Phục) là nhà sáng tác nhạc cổ điển đương đại (contemporary classical music), có vở grand opera lớn đầu tiên về đề tài văn hóa Việt Nam được dàn dựng quy mô trên sân khấu lớn ở Mỹ. Ông sinh năm 1962 tại Đà Nẵng. Trong lúc đang học về kiến trúc từ năm 1976, ông đã tự học chơi dương cầm, sáng tác và hòa âm. Năm 1982, ông tới Hoa Kỳ và bắt đầu chính thức học nhạc. Ông lấy bằng tiến sĩ âm nhạc tại đại học University of Michigan. Cũng tại trường đại học này, ông lấy bằng thac sĩ âm nhạc thứ 2 về Nghiên Cứu Âm Nhạc Dân Tộc. Sáng tác của ông đã được trình diễn hầu như khắp nơi trên thế giới.
Tiến Sĩ P.Q. Phan hiện là Giáo Sư Âm Nhạc ngành sáng tác tại trường nhạc Jacobs School of Music, thuộc trường đại học Indiana University, ở Bloomington. Trước đó Ông đã từng dạy tại đại học University of Illinois ở Urbana-Champaign và Cleveland State University.
